Instructor training

All SMHFA instructors must attend five days of initial training. The training is designed to develop skills and knowledge and to build confidence about the use of the materials.

Structure of the training

The course is made up of the following elements:

• Before you start the course, you must attend the SMHFA participant course (12 hours' work). This will be in your own time. It must also be within the 12 months before the instructor training course begins. 
• Details of upcoming courses are available on the website.
• The 5 day course is in 2 parts. These comprise 3 days online and 2 further days which can be online or face to face.

Why do we plan the training in this way?

We plan the course this way because:

• 5 consecutive days is too big a commitment for most people to take out of work time
• you need time to familiarise yourself with the content and materials used in each part of the course
